Between the sea and the mountain
Oriolo Calabro is located in Calabria of the North, between the Jonian Sea and the National Park of the Pollino; Oriolo is of Medieval origin, it is situated to a height of about 450 meters, preserve a fascinating medieval suburb with the castle. The country offers pizzerias, snack bar and an interesting theater program, during the summer season, in the suggestive theater La Portella.
The shore of the Alto Jonio has an extension of about 50 km and the beaches the beaches are formed above all from pebbles. The nearer zone of sea to Oriole is the Marina of Amendolara with its Broken Tower, that was built in 1550 by marquis Fabrizio Pignatelli and it’s part of the system of the towers of sighting.
From Jonian beaches, going in the hinterland, you get to the highest peaks of the Pollino, where you can discover other countries and natural landscapes, such as the Gole del Raganello, a natural reserve inside the National Park of the Pollino, in which the lovers of the most extreme sports, as the mountaineering, the free-climbing and the rafting, can try. But even those who have never tried these activities, may follow the experienced guides or engage in excursions, such as trekking and caving-archeology.
